Prompt: In the church where I used to be a Catholic. There was a brick wall. It held up the crucifix and a few banners, behind the altar. I spent many years looking at it in my youth, thinking about death. I thought of death in terms of the end of a baseball game, but what was different with this game is that there would be no more games to come. No more baseball. Only a dark void. I would sit, staring at these bricks, which, when grouped in threes, looked like 8-bit fighter jets and I would play out wars between them all. Imagining their pathways. The brick-filled explosions. I thought of this, and death and how the light above the crucifix shadowed Christ’s arms as downward, rather than upward. And His shadow looked as though the ascension of His spirit needed the help of Iron Man’s boosters. But this was not the case was it? And there is more baseball to come.
