Subject Description: solitude only nature could provide. The path narrowed as he ascended, hugging the edge of a towering cliff. A sudden crackling sound made him freeze—his foot had dislodged a loose rock.
Before he could react, the ground beneath him crumbled, sending him sliding toward the edge. Heart pounding, Raj managed to grab onto a small root sticking out of the rocky wall. Below him was a sheer drop into a roaring river.
His fingers burned, his grip weakening. The root was too small to hold for long. Summoning his last ounce of strength, he swung his legs toward a nearby ledge and barely caught it with his feet. He scrambled up and lay on the ground, gasping, staring at the sky.
Raj realized how close he had come to death. The thrill of the hike was gone—he just wanted to get back home.
